10 Best Free Software
There are a lot of free software in the web. However, I would tackle only the best and those that you would find much helpful and that is a pretty good alternative to the more known softwares in the market. They are arranged in no particular order.
Why Free?
I love free stuff, much when it would give me the same benefit to something
that can be bought. A great example are softwares
that are out on the market. There are lots of cool softwares
that is offered online, reading their reviews always tempt me to push the "buy" button displayed
on their pages. However, to be a smart buyer you must know what you will need to buy and what you can consider downloading
for free. An example would be, if you own a large company, and you want to protect your company private data from hackers and malicious
software.
It would be silly if you would settle for an Anti-virus/Anti-spyware that can be downloaded
free. You would always want to ensure that your system would be safe, and in order to do that you need to pay for a good security software (and Blockers). In contrast, if you are an ordinary mother who does nothing on the Internet but checks her Facebook a free one is a perfect fit. You don't need to buy a premium software if it could be done by another one for free, that's smart buying. I set up a list of commonly use free wares which you can download that is comparable
to the ones that can be bought.
1. Open Office
It is an alternative
to Microsoft
office and has the same functions.
It is an open-source
office software suite for word processing,
spreadsheets, presentations, graphics,
databases
and more. When you say "open-source" it usually corresponds
to something
free. Its Writer, Impress, Draw and Base are alternatives to the known Microsoft
Office Word, Powerpoint,
Paint and Excel.
Foxit Reader Review
2. Foxit reader
Yes, I know Adobe reader is free, but lately it has been more vulnerable
to malware attacks. Check out this link if you want to know about the details of Adobe Reader's vulnerability. Foxit reader is one of the best (if not the best) alternatives for a PDF reader. It is more secure compared to Adobe and pretty much faster.
3. CutePDF Writer
Converting
a certain document to a PDF equivalent
has been famous these days. Many people really love PDF files. Merely, because you cannot edit it, and it is easy to print files in PDF. The only ones that are allowed access a PDF document of the author is the users who are given legal rights. Portable Document Files or PDF files are more secure compared to Word files. There are many websites that allow you to convert a certain file online for free but the problem is they are usually designed converting
only a certain file format to PDF. With CutePDF writer, you need to open the file using its own application
(word, powerpoint, etc.), then print it using CutePDF writter after that you’re done.
4. 7zip
Winrar and Winzip are basically not free of course, so why not try 7zip. It can extract both winrar and winzip files. Furthermore, there is an article written on Web which I have read that concludes that compressed files using 7zip has less memory compare to compress done of either Winzip or Winrar.
5. CCleaner
It optimizes your computer by deleting unnecessary files or registries. It is a registry cleaner, for it cleans your registry of those you do not need. For example, if you uninstall a certain software, there are some files that would be left out by the uninstalled software on the registry, CCleaner will take care of that since it would delete it once it detected those files or registries. Furthermore, it also clears your Internet browsing history and empties your recycle bin.
6. VLC media player
This is my favorite free ware. It allows you to play video and audio files and supports almost all types of them. The good thing is you do not need to download any additional codecs. VLC has it all once installed. The major problem is it is poor in playing RMVB files and .3GP files. I do recommend if you want to play real media files download “Real alternative”. It is free too.
7. Malwarebytes
I love this software since it adds me additional and free security against malwares. It is designed to detect malwares that most antiviruses fails to detect. It is not really a full antivirus but a software that is meant to go alongside with your currently installed antivirus software.
Audacity Tutorial
8. Audacity
Is a free ware for audio editing and recording. It is designed for
Windows, Mac OS X and GNU/Linux.It can record live audio, convert tapes and records into digital recordings, splice or mix sounds together, change the speed of a certain recording and a lot more (you can check its website if you want to know more of its functions).
Digsby Tutorial
9. Digsby
It is “multi-protocol” instant messaging client/application.
It allows you to chat with MSN, Yahoo messenger, Googletalk, Jabber, AIM, ICQ users without having you to open separate windows ( a window for YM, another one for Jabber, one for MSN…etc. I know you get the point). It is also an E-mail notification tool that alerts you of new mail. Furthermore, it notifies you of updates about the social networking sites you are signed-up to like new messages and the likes. It is a good application if you are signed up to different instant messaging and social networking sites, and you are needed to be online all at the same time. Digsby prevents a messy computer workspace.
10. GIMP
I use this free software for image manipulating, it is like Photoshop Adobe. Well, it has features that are comparable to Photoshop but of course Adobe is superior in some ways. I use Gimp, because it is pretty easy not that many tools to be lost into.

I'm using Audacity to covert my LP album collection or vinyl records.
